Alberta separation vote

News · Heat 1.8 / 10 · 5 shows · 29m airtime

Alberta held a non-binding vote on October 19 on whether to begin the legal process toward separation from Canada. Voters rejected the measure 76% to 23%, a result framed as a win for Prime Minister Mark Carney. Before the vote, an Angus Reid Institute survey found 66% of Albertans wanted to stay in Canada, and nearly half of Calgary Chamber of Commerce members surveyed in June said they would consider relocating if voters backed a second referendum. The result does not itself trigger a referendum.
