On September 3 and 4, 2026, the Lindsay Clancy murder jury entered its seventh day of deliberations with a note reporting one juror refuses to follow the reasonable doubt instruction. Judge William Sullivan questioned each juror, re-read the instruction, and refused to dismiss the holdout; Kevin Reddington moved to remove the juror and to end sidebars. The note identified the holdout as a man and the split as 11-1, and the Commonwealth cited Commonwealth v. Ronchi against an individual voir dire. Massachusetts allows a judge to send a deadlocked jury back only twice before a mistrial, and a lawyer has publicly proposed the DA accept an 11-person not-guilty-by-reason-of-insanity verdict.
