Como beat Manchester United 4-1 in the Champions League on October 21, 2026. After the game Bruno Fernandes told TNT Sports the staff had chosen not to press man to man, and said tactical questions were for the manager and staff. Reporting has since established that Lisandro Martinez criticised Jason Wilcox about a week before the Como game, and a reported five-man United replacement list names Nagelsmann, Conte, Howe, McKenna and Herzler. The discussion weighs whether a captain should publicly criticise his manager, with Rob Green arguing he should not, and now turns on whether the manager's position is already being priced in, with opposition having had better expected goals than United in eight consecutive games.
