On October 12, a report said China's CXMT is developing a new generation of memory chip, sending Micron to a three-week low. Coverage has since identified the rival as Shangshin, a Shanghai-based company with a market cap of about $500 billion, and says the design is due before year-end. CXMT described moving from 6F squared to 4F squared to pack more memory into smaller spaces, and took 9.5% of global RAM memory revenue last quarter, up from 7.2% the quarter before. The chip's specs remain unreported, and it is not yet established how directly it would compete with US memory makers.

## Segments

- [Bloomberg Tech](https://boilpoints.com/u/bloombergtech), 2026-10-12, 0:52 to 1:23: **Reports CXMT chip sending Micron to a low**. Opens the week on the chip space: a report that China's CXMT has a new generation of memory chip sends Micron to a three-week low and puts the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index on track for a fourth straight decline, its longest run since July. New angle: A report on CXMT's new memory chip generation sent Micron to a three-week low.
- [Closing Bell](https://boilpoints.com/u/closingbell), 2026-10-12, 1:01 to 4:26: **Names the Chinese memory rival and the selloff**. Picks up the memory selloff with a name and a date: the Chinese competitor is Shangshin, Shanghai-based, roughly a $500 billion market cap, public earlier this year, with a design claiming strong inference performance due before year-end. Adds the spillover into optical names and the three-to-six percent drops across Micron, SK Hynix and SanDisk. New angle: The Chinese memory rival is Shangshin, Shanghai-based, about a $500 billion market cap, with the design due before year-end.
- [Bloomberg Tech](https://boilpoints.com/u/bloombergtech), 2026-10-13, 2:07 to 5:38: **Breaks down the CXMT memory-packing technique**. Peter Elstrom walks through the drivers of the selloff, centering on CXMT's new memory-packing technique and noting Samsung has not discussed using it until 2028 and that CXMT offered little evidence it can. New angle: CXMT described moving from 6F squared to 4F squared to pack more memory into smaller spaces.
- [Closing Bell](https://boilpoints.com/u/closingbell), 2026-10-13, 7:37 to 14:52: **Adds CXMT's 9.5% share of RAM revenue**. DA Davidson's Gil Luria argues memory is no longer a commodity and Micron's six-times multiple is a dislocation against AMD and Intel at forty. Adds CXMT's share of global RAM revenue: 9.5% last quarter, up from 7.2%. New angle: CXMT took 9.5% of global RAM memory revenue last quarter, up from 7.2% the quarter before.
