Dolores Huerta, who co-founded the United Farm Workers and spent decades as a labor and civil rights organizer, died on October 28 at 96 after a battle with cancer. The discussion has moved to a disclosure she made this year, at 95, to the New York Times that Cesar Chavez raped her in a grape field in the 1960s. Her September 2017 guest-DJ turn on NPR's Alt Latino, playing Charlie Parker, Lena Horne and Dizzy Gillespie with Chano Pozo, has also surfaced. How the rape allegation is weighed against her public account of the union's founding remains open.
