The Wall Street Journal reported on October 8, 2026 that Kimberly Guilfoyle, then awaiting confirmation as ambassador to Greece, asked Trump donor Eric Deters for $100,000 wired to her American Express without a paper trail. Later reporting added payment instructions, a Signal warning to stop papering their dealings, Greek lobbyists in official meetings, and a Davos recording promising a businessman money for a dinner invitation. The State Department's inspector general has opened an investigation, and Democrats on Capitol Hill have demanded more. Trump asked her to resign and she did. Her lawyer calls the texts fake; Deters says he is suing her, her law firm and the administration for defamation.
