HBO announced on October 16, 2026, that Girls will return for a five-episode limited series. Lena Dunham has reportedly asked the cast about summer availability, which points to filming next summer and a release no sooner than 2028. The discussion also covers the original show's 2012 premiere and six-season run, and how long a rewatch would take.
